History of Solar Light Company
Solar Light Company was founded in 1966 by Professor Daniel Berger of Temple University to
produce solar simulators for biological research and sunburn tests. Aptly named for
the product line which focuses on biological effects of sunlight, Solar Light continues to
set the standard for biologically significant ultraviolet light simulation and
measurement.
Simulation of the sun's damaging UV radiation quickly led to other
applications, such as accelerated degradation testing of any material expected to
withstand exposure to sunlight. The unique xenon lamp source employed in Solar Light
simulators, coupled with high quality optics, provides a UV spectral source virtually
identical to the overhead sun on a cloudless day.
The usefulness of a UV source depends on accurate measurement of the
output, both qualitatively and quantitatively for meaningful, repeatable tests.
Logically, Solar Light Co., is as expert at measuring UV radiation as in generating
UV light.
The Solar Light 501 UV Biometer is recognized worldwide as the standard
for measuring the sun's UV radiation for biological effects, safety, and to monitor the
degradation of the ozone layer.
Proprietary UVB expertise created a demand for an expanded line of UV
detectors and sensors for many applications, with the ultimate meter for reading, logging
and dose integration. This lead to the creation of the PMA2100 multi use
meter/datalogger. The PMA2100 has proven to be both accurate and versatile in many
different industries and environments.
