Engineers at top solar panel companies are hard at work developing innovations making solar even more practical and accessible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this post, we highlight solar panel innovations from three industry leaders: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lg-solar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LG<\/a>, Sunpower, and <a href=\"http:\/\/firstsolar.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">First Solar<\/a>. Here are their exciting new solar panel products to look for in 2018. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1. LG\u2019s Highly Efficient Panels for Residential Solar<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LG introduced its new LG NeON R panels. More than just a catchy name, these panels boast up to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/lg-neon-r-solar-panel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">350 to 365 watts at 20.8 percent efficiency<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The 365-watt model offers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pv-magazine-usa.com\/2017\/09\/14\/lg-unveils-high-power-ac-panels-at-spi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">29 percent more power<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than the average panel at just 290 watts. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LG accomplished this using technology previously exclusive to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SunPower<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. SunPower and LG are in fairly constant competition for the title of \u201cbest solar panels.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img style=\"width: 640px; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.solar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/LG%20NeON%20ACe.jpg\" alt=\"LG NeON ACe.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Efficiency is obviously one of the top considerations homeowners factor in when looking for the best solar panels for their home. The more efficient the panels, the fewer panels are needed to power your home. Of course, as we&#8217;ve explained in our <a href=\"https:\/\/solarbook.pickmysolar.com\/solar-panels-a-to-z\/does-solar-panel-efficiency-matter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SolarBook guide<\/a>, high-efficiency panels come at a cost premium that isn&#8217;t necessary for homeowners with enough room on their roof. These panels are a better option for a smaller house lacking roof space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But other factors beyond efficiency also play into how much power a panel can produce in real-world settings. LG\u2019s new panels are currently the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cleantechnica.com\/2017\/09\/19\/lgs-new-solar-panel-spi\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">highest rated for weathering snow and wind in the industry<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. They also keep producing through a wide range of temperature fluctuations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NeON R panels are built to withstand light degradation better than most on the market. Wire-free NeON R ACe panels, equipped with WiFi, will be available early 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. SunPower\u2019s New Solar Panel Carport<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the commercial solar front, SunPower introduced a new highly efficient solar carport. These panels are featured in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BuildingGreen\u2019s list of the top ten recommended products for 2018<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which features innovations \u201cin health and environmental performance across all major building product sectors.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SunPower claims they can generate <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c45 percent more energy in the same space over 25 years when compared to conventional panels.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Solar carports are gaining popularity<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for significantly minimizing energy costs while maximizing space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The normally dead space of a parking lot can generate clean electricity, reduce energy costs, protect cars, and contribute toward LEED credits&#8211;all while making a statement to the community about committing to clean energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Add-on features include rainwater collection for reuse, EV charging stations, and even energy storage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The multifunctional, conscientious design has earned SunPower\u2019s new carports the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cradle to Cradle Certified\u2122 Silver<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> achievement<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It\u2019s the only solar company to achieve this status thus far. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. First Solar Introduces Series 6 Thin Film Model<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First Solar is the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investors.com\/news\/technology\/first-solar-jumps-as-2018-earnings-forecast-product-outlook-top-views\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">largest U.S. solar product manufacturer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Their <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstsolar.com\/-\/media\/First-Solar\/Technical-Documents\/Series-4-Datasheets\/Series-4V3-Module-Datasheet.ashx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">series 4 model<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been a staple in the commercial solar panel industry, producing 122.5W and 17% efficiency. The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstsolar.com\/-\/media\/First-Solar\/Technical-Documents\/Series-6-Datasheets\/Series-6-Datasheet.ashx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">series 6 model<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can produce 420-445W at 17% efficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The efficiency is about average for the commercial market, but having more watts per unit makes it far more powerful.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/245805769\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While building on the current model for a seamless transition, series 6 will be easier to ship, more durable, and easier to install.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First Solar\u2019s Stefan Degener sums up the advantages, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Series 6 will continue to generate up to eight percent more energy per watt installed<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, compared with conventional crystalline silicon modules with the same power rating.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Solar Panels and Your Home<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bringing it back to your home, the bottom line is there\u2019s no one-size-fits-all solution for solar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even \u201cthe best\u201d solar panels might not make sense for your rooftop, depending on real-world factors.
