#88 of 678 scored in California by Solar.com Installer Score

How does Clean Solar compare where you live? Rankings are local; an installer that leads one city can trail in the next. See how they rank in your city →

Why this differs from star ratings: most five-star reviews say “great company” and stop, and star averages reward that. These category scores only count reviews with concrete evidence, weighted by recency and the reviewer’s track record. A company can hold a strong star average while specific categories score lower; that gap is usually where the real story is. Categories with more complaints than praise are the questions worth asking any bidder, not necessarily dealbreakers.

Where Clean Solar builds

County-by-county activity from CPUC records through May 2026.

What this data covers: *Counts on this page, including the totals up top, come from investor-owned-utility interconnection records (SCE, SDG&E, PG&E). Work in municipal-utility territory, such as LADWP or city utilities, and outside California does not appear here, so this company's true totals are higher than shown. Unlike the county rankings, this profile also shows counties below the 250-install ranking floor.

Clean Solar reviews: what customers say

An independent synthesis of published customer feedback across Google and Yelp, updated September 28, 2026. Green marks praise, amber mixed experiences, red complaints.

Sales & proposal integrity

Sales Integrity7.8/10

Reviewers most often describe the sales process as clear, educational, and low-pressure. The main complaints center on harder-to-reach follow-up after signing and a smaller set of reviewers saying the project or promised next steps did not unfold as expected.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Clear explanations and options. Many reviewers say the consultation was detailed and easy to follow, with multiple system options explained without pressure. Several describe feeling informed enough to make a choice with confidence. Representative review excerpt: "The impeccable experience started with Art the consultant, he gave 4 scenarios and explained in detail what each means and provided detail report including all the tech details and break..."

Low-pressure, responsive consults. Reviewers also report that questions were answered promptly and that the sales team took time to review needs before recommending a system. This is one of the category’s most common praise patterns. Representative review excerpt: "Art explained the options thoroughly without pressure, and he was quick to respond whenever we needed clarification."

Follow-up gaps after signing. A smaller group of reviewers says it became harder to reach the company after the contract was signed, or that promised follow-through did not match expectations. These complaints are present but not the dominant theme. Representative review excerpt: "They're so hard to get hold of once you sign the contract or maybe it just depends on the sales person."

Price & financing transparency

Price Transparency5.6/10

This category is mixed to negative. Some reviewers describe fair pricing and helpful financing guidance, while others report surprise charges, deposit concerns, or incentive timing issues that were not clearly set up in advance.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Fair pricing and financing help. Several reviewers say the quoted price felt fair and that financing guidance was helpful, including support in finding a workable payment setup. These comments suggest some customers found the financial side straightforward. Representative review excerpt: "Their price was extremely fair and they got a 22-panel + battery install done within a couple of days with no hassle."

Helpful walkthrough of costs. Some reviewers describe being walked through products, pricing, and what to expect before moving forward. In those cases, the process felt transparent rather than rushed. Representative review excerpt: "The customer service form the very first call with Tim L to the final call walking me through all the products, how they work, and even what to expect out..."

Charges and payment concerns. Other reviewers report unexpected charges, large payments already submitted, or project costs that escalated after the initial discussion. The recurring complaint pattern is less about one price point and more about clarity around total cost and timing. Representative review excerpt: "- I even reached out to [sales person] on 5/3/2023 to check-in on if this project was still happening (and after I had already submitted over $50k in payment)."

Communication & coordination

Communication8.1/10

Reviewers generally describe Clean Solar as responsive and helpful in coordinating projects, including handling follow-up questions and troubleshooting. The complaints that do appear focus on missed emails, uneven accountability, or occasional communication delays during specific phases of the job.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Responsive support. Many reviewers say the team was quick to respond, took time to understand project constraints, and followed up on concerns. This is the strongest pattern in the category. Representative review excerpt: "Given the responsiveness of Clean Solar, the effort they put into understanding both my goals and working around the unique constraints of my panel, I chose them as the vendor."

Extra effort on issues. Reviewers also report that staff stepped in after hours or arranged follow-up help when problems came up. Those comments point to hands-on coordination once a project was underway. Representative review excerpt: "Even though it was a non-working day, Brendan took the time to listen to my concerns and followed up with the management to arrange a troubleshooting call."

Disorganization complaints. A smaller group describes poor communication, slow email responses, or a lack of accountability in service and support. These reports are real but not representative of the overall review mix. Representative review excerpt: "- [project manager] was often not responsive to emails sent, especially around the electric panel work (see emails from November 2023)."

Timeline reliability

Timeline Reliability7.8/10

Most reviewers say projects moved forward in a reasonably organized way once scheduling and permitting were in motion. The main watch-outs involve permit delays, scheduling slips, and occasional downtime that lasted longer than expected.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Process stayed on track. Several reviewers say the install and activation process ultimately went according to plan, even when it took months to complete. These comments support a generally solid reliability rating. Representative review excerpt: "It took nearly six months--the system was only installed in late November and final inspection was in early December--but everything went according to plan."

Permitting and scheduling handled. Reviewers also describe the team getting them through permitting and queueing the installation without major surprises. That suggests the company can manage the administrative side of the timeline competently. Representative review excerpt: "Despite this they were able to get us through the permitting process and queue the install for later in 2023."

Delays and longer-than-expected projects. Some reviewers report permit delays, scheduling issues, or projects that stretched out longer than they expected. In a few cases, downtime or activation timing was longer than the sales estimate. Representative review excerpt: "Even the initial installation was delayed due to their scheduling to start work but forgetting to pull permits."

Workmanship & site care

Workmanship8.9/10

This is one of the strongest areas in the review corpus. Reviewers frequently praise installation quality, professional crews, and careful cleanup, while the few complaints mostly involve damage, code-related fixes, or setup issues with equipment.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Professional crews and clean installs. Many reviewers describe the crews as professional and the installation as clean and well executed. These comments make up the large majority of evidence in this category. Representative review excerpt: "Cris, the technician from Clean Solar, arrived before the inspector was scheduled to come, checked everything over, turned on the system and verified correct operation (he had to install firmware..."

Inspection-friendly results. Reviewers also mention that the finished work made inspections straightforward and that follow-up fixes were handled well. The site-care and workmanship feedback is consistently strong. Representative review excerpt: "The roofing inspector said Clean Roofing did a great job and which made his inspection very easy."

Damage and correction complaints. A smaller set of reviewers reports roof or shingle damage, workmanship issues, or equipment setup problems that needed correction afterward. These are the main complaint patterns in an otherwise very positive category. Representative review excerpt: "The quality of their work for the solar panels installation is a 0 out of 10 because the brand new shingles were damaged since they dragged the rails, solar panels..."

Long-term support & performance

Long-Term Support8.9/10

Reviewers generally report strong post-install results, including systems producing as expected and staff helping with troubleshooting or repairs. Complaints are limited but center on warranty navigation, repair timing, and follow-up support when issues arise after the system is on.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Systems producing as expected. Many reviewers say their systems are running well, producing power, and showing normal monitoring results after installation. This is the most common positive theme in the category. Representative review excerpt: "The CleanSolar engineers designed the addition of new panels and new powerwalls in a way that resulted in a very clean and elegant system that produces the expected energy."

Helpful repair and troubleshooting support. Reviewers also describe staff staying involved to restore operation, verify production, or arrange troubleshooting help. Those comments suggest the company remains engaged after turn-on. Representative review excerpt: "He replaced the inverter and did not leave until he made sure that the system was back up and running and production was being reported in the app."

Warranty and service navigation issues. A smaller group says warranty, repair, or recall support was difficult to navigate once a problem came up. The complaint pattern is about post-install process friction rather than basic system output. Representative review excerpt: "Since then, ongoing service, warranty, repair, and recall support has been extremely difficult to navigate."

Bottom line: Clean Solar’s review profile is strongest for workmanship, post-install support, communication, and the clarity of many sales consultations. The main weaker area is price and financing transparency, where reviewers more often report surprise costs or unclear payment expectations, and timeline complaints mostly involve permit or scheduling delays rather than complete project failure.

Important context: this chart shows investor-owned-utility records only. Companies that shift work toward municipal-utility territory (LADWP and city power departments) or other states will show declining bars here even while building steadily elsewhere, and 2025-26 records also lag real installation dates. Treat this as a partial window, not the company's full trajectory.

How we built this data

Methodology: Counts are residential PV interconnections in investor-owned-utility territory (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E) per CPUC Rule 21 public records through May 2026. Postal and name variants are merged. Municipal utility territory such as LADWP, Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Anaheim, and Riverside Public Utilities is not included in those CPUC counts. Counts show recorded installations, not quality ratings. Reported costs are self-reported on owned-system interconnections. No installer can pay for placement.

Who we are: Solar.com is a solar marketplace — we connect homeowners with installers and earn a fee when projects move forward. These rankings and scores are computed from public installation records and published customer reviews. No installer can pay for placement, and no installer — including those we work with — can pay to change a score.
