#153 of 678 scored in California by Solar.com Installer Score

How does Coastal Solar compare where you live? Rankings are local; an installer that leads one city can trail in the next. See how they rank in your city →

Why this differs from star ratings: most five-star reviews say “great company” and stop, and star averages reward that. These category scores only count reviews with concrete evidence, weighted by recency and the reviewer’s track record. A company can hold a strong star average while specific categories score lower; that gap is usually where the real story is. Categories with more complaints than praise are the questions worth asking any bidder, not necessarily dealbreakers.

Where Coastal Solar builds

County-by-county activity from CPUC records through May 2026.

What this data covers: *Counts on this page, including the totals up top, come from investor-owned-utility interconnection records (SCE, SDG&E, PG&E). Work in municipal-utility territory, such as LADWP or city utilities, and outside California does not appear here, so this company's true totals are higher than shown. Unlike the county rankings, this profile also shows counties below the 250-install ranking floor.

Coastal Solar reviews: what customers say

An independent synthesis of published customer feedback across Google and Yelp, updated September 28, 2026. Green marks praise, amber mixed experiences, red complaints.

Sales & proposal integrity

Sales Integrity6.8/10

Reviewers are mostly positive about sales knowledge and quote quality, but there are a few complaints about unclear expectations, missing paperwork, and delays in getting proposals submitted. Overall, the feedback suggests solid sales guidance with some unevenness around follow-through and contract clarity.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Knowledgeable sales guidance. Reviewers describe a recurring pattern in this area. Representative review excerpt: "The sales rep knew more than the technical reps at the competition."

Reasonable, Pricing proposals. Some customers describe receiving quotes that seemed fair and detailed, and they credit the company with giving them useful information during the decision process. Representative review excerpt: "We got a competitive reasonable quote from them and the only reason we did not go with them was their financing company didn't offer what we needed."

Proposal and expectation gaps. A smaller set of reviewers report problems with missing or delayed quotes, contracts, or submission steps, and some say the experience did not match what they expected from the outset. Representative review excerpt: "I never received a quote, estimate, contract or anything signed prior to their visit or even after Matt showed up at 5PM on a Friday to briefly look at our..."

Price & financing transparency

Price Transparency6.4/10

Feedback on pricing and financing is mixed: many reviewers describe fair pricing and reasonable financing, while a smaller number report hidden costs, missing paperwork, or frustration tied to rebate and incentive timing. The category lands in the middle because positive value comments are offset by recurring transparency concerns.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Fair pricing reported. Reviewers often describe the pricing as reasonable or appropriate, and some say they received a clear price for the work early in the process. Representative review excerpt: "Even the financing was reasonable and price appropriate."

Helpful financing in some cases. Some customers mention that the financing felt workable and that the overall price seemed fair for the scope of work. Representative review excerpt: "I contacted coastal solar and they came out within five days and gave me a price for all the work that was less than Tesla's basic visit fee."

Transparency concerns at the end. A smaller group reports hidden costs, incomplete paperwork, or confusion around incentive timing and final project charges. Representative review excerpt: "Upon initiate estimate, their was hidden cost at the end of project."

Communication & coordination

Communication7.9/10

Most reviewers describe strong communication, responsive follow-up, and good coordination across the project. The few complaints focus on prolonged silence, delayed submissions, or not receiving promised proposals, but those issues appear less common than the praise.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Consistent updates on-site. Reviewers frequently say the team stayed in touch, explained choices clearly, and coordinated closely during the job. Representative review excerpt: "Kevin, the lead electrician, was very meticulous and communicated with us constantly about choices of placement of equipment and how we wanted things to look."

Responsive problem-solving. Some customers say the company responded quickly when issues came up and helped keep projects moving. Representative review excerpt: "Within a day, Coastal Solar diagnosed the issue and had my system back online."

Communication breakdowns for a few reviewers. A smaller number of customers report repeated calls and messages without resolution, including delays in submissions or promised follow-up that did not arrive on time. Representative review excerpt: "I called, texted and emailed Matt numerous times and over 6 months later our SGIP has still not been submitted."

Timeline reliability

Timeline Reliability7.3/10

Timeline feedback is generally favorable, with many reviewers describing timely service, quick fixes, and smooth activation. Still, a small number of reviews mention long delays around submissions or scheduling, so reliability is good overall but not perfect.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Timely completion in many reviews. Customers often describe the work as prompt, including quick turnaround on service calls and installations that finished in a timely manner. Representative review excerpt: "They installed my Tesla wall charger and did a beautiful job in a very timely manner."

Fast system recovery. Some reviewers say the team got systems back online quickly after diagnosing a problem, which helped reduce downtime. Representative review excerpt: "Matt was able to get it working in about an hour and then got us set up with an account so we could log in and see how much electricity..."

Occasional delay complaints. A few reviewers report that permit-related or incentive-related steps took much longer than expected, including long waits for submission or follow-through. Representative review excerpt: "I called, texted and emailed Matt numerous times and over 6 months later our SGIP has still not been submitted."

Long-term support & performance

Long-Term Support8.6/10

Post-install support and system performance are also rated very highly. Reviewers describe successful battery and system work, quick issue diagnosis, and helpful follow-up when monitoring or service needs came up after the original installation.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Strong post-install diagnosis. Some customers say the company diagnosed problems quickly and got systems back online without much delay. Representative review excerpt: "Within a day, Coastal Solar diagnosed the issue and had my system back online."

Support beyond the original install. Reviewers describe a recurring pattern in this area. Representative review excerpt: "For the other PV system we had a different company install but when they went out of business Coastal Solar stepped in and replaced the monitoring system so we can..."

Positive battery and system outcomes. A number of reviewers describe being impressed with the results after new batteries or other system components were installed. Representative review excerpt: "Just got my Franklin Batteries installed by Coastal and boy oh boy am I impressed."

Bottom line: Across 124 substantive reviews, COASTAL SOLAR earns a strong overall Solar.com score of 8.3/10, with especially high marks for workmanship, site care, and long-term support. Important context: this chart shows investor-owned-utility records only. Companies that shift work toward municipal-utility territory (LADWP and city power departments) or other states will show declining bars here even while building steadily elsewhere, and 2025-26 records also lag real installation dates. Treat this as a partial window, not the company's full trajectory.

How we built this data

Methodology: Counts are residential PV interconnections in investor-owned-utility territory (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E) per CPUC Rule 21 public records through May 2026. Postal and name variants are merged. Municipal utility territory such as LADWP, Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Anaheim, and Riverside Public Utilities is not included in those CPUC counts. Counts show recorded installations, not quality ratings. Reported costs are self-reported on owned-system interconnections. No installer can pay for placement.

Who we are: Solar.com is a solar marketplace — we connect homeowners with installers and earn a fee when projects move forward. These rankings and scores are computed from public installation records and published customer reviews. No installer can pay for placement, and no installer — including those we work with — can pay to change a score.
