How does Home Energy Systems compare where you live? Rankings are local; an installer that leads one city can trail in the next. See how they rank in your city →

Why this differs from star ratings: most five-star reviews say “great company” and stop, and star averages reward that. These category scores only count reviews with concrete evidence, weighted by recency and the reviewer’s track record. A company can hold a strong star average while specific categories score lower; that gap is usually where the real story is. Categories with more complaints than praise are the questions worth asking any bidder, not necessarily dealbreakers.

Where Home Energy Systems builds

County-by-county activity from CPUC records through May 2026.

What this data covers: *Counts on this page, including the totals up top, come from investor-owned-utility interconnection records (SCE, SDG&E, PG&E). Work in municipal-utility territory, such as LADWP or city utilities, and outside California does not appear here, so this company's true totals are higher than shown. Unlike the county rankings, this profile also shows counties below the 250-install ranking floor.

Home Energy Systems reviews: what customers say

An independent synthesis of published customer feedback, updated September 28, 2026. Green marks praise, amber mixed experiences, red complaints.

Sales & proposal integrity

Sales Integrity7.1/10

Reviewers more often describe the sales experience as clear, responsive, and low-pressure than not. A smaller set of complaints focuses on quotes that did not match expectations or were presented without enough detail, so the category reads positive overall with some watch-outs around proposal accuracy.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Clear, low-pressure explanations. Reviewers say sales reps explained the process in simple terms, answered questions, and kept the experience calm rather than pushy. Representative review excerpt: "Tom was outstanding in explaining everything in simple terms and has a no pressure approach."

Responsive and professional follow-up. Some reviewers describe the sales team as friendly, knowledgeable, and quick to return messages or provide quotes. Representative review excerpt: "Our sales rep from HES was Triston Burton who knew the ins and outs of his business including always returning our messages on questions we had."

Proposal details sometimes missed expectations. A minority of reviewers report that the proposal or quote structure did not line up with what they believed was included, or that they received outreach without enough context first. Representative review excerpt: "When it was originally broke down for me it seemed as though the solar portion was apart of the roof quote but it was not."

Price & financing transparency

Price Transparency6.0/10

Feedback on pricing and financing is mixed. Reviewers praise help with rebates and setup guidance, but a notable number describe surprise costs, confusion around total price, or delays around payment-related matters and incentive timing.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Help with rebates and setup guidance. Some reviewers say the team made rebate processes easier and helped them navigate app setup and system use. Representative review excerpt: "Rachel did a great job with the project management, Cassandra made it easy for us to get our rebates, Paul and Carlos rocked the electrical and the solar panel crew..."

Useful guidance after signing. Reviewers also mention receiving practical advice on getting the most out of the system, even while waiting for work to begin. Representative review excerpt: "I was guided through both the Tesla and HES Solar (smartphone) application and given advice on how to get the most efficiency from my solar/battery system."

Price and payment expectations not always clear. A number of reviewers report unexpected extra charges or delayed payment timing, which left them unsure whether the final cost matched what they thought had been agreed to. Representative review excerpt: "It came out to be that we would have to pay an additional amount vs what we thought was a total price so we decided to cancel."

Communication & coordination

Communication6.3/10

Communication receives a mixed-to-positive read. Many reviewers describe steady updates, helpful coordination, and transparent project management, but a meaningful complaint pattern centers on slow responses, unanswered calls, and difficulty getting follow-through on open issues.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Transparent project management. Reviewers say the team explained what to expect and kept them informed as the project moved forward. Representative review excerpt: "My husband and I truly appreciate his transparency in how the project will progress and what to expect as well as his ongoing communication with us."

Good ongoing support. Some customers note that staff stayed available for questions, problems, and local incentive questions over time. Representative review excerpt: "The team at HES installed my original system and for the past 4 years has been my support for any questions, problems and local incentives."

Hard to reach when issues came up. A number of reviewers report repeated calls and emails with little response, especially when they were trying to get status updates or resolve open items. Representative review excerpt: "After emails and calls we barely received our deposit money back in beginning of October after having to call every week."

Timeline reliability

Timeline Reliability6.8/10

Timing feedback is mostly positive but not spotless. Reviewers commonly mention on-time work and coordinated inspections, while complaints focus on longer-than-expected delays, rescheduling, and permit or inspection problems that pushed projects out.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

On-time installation and coordination. Several reviewers say crews arrived as scheduled and coordinated installation or final inspection well. Representative review excerpt: "Leticia coordinated the installation and final inspection and Paul and his assistant actually performed the installation."

Projects completed with expected delays. Some customers describe a longer timeline but note that weather, approvals, or other steps helped explain the wait. Representative review excerpt: "We started the solar project in the beginning of December and concluded in the middle of February with some stalls due to weather and the amount of people wanting solar..."

Delays after inspection problems. A smaller set of reviewers report inspection failures, rescheduling, or long waits before issues were resolved. Representative review excerpt: "The install failed city inspection and it took HES Months to resolve it."

Workmanship & site care

Workmanship7.9/10

Workmanship is a clear strength in the review set. Most reviewers describe professional crews, solid installation results, and prompt fixes when work was needed, though a smaller group reports repair or quality issues that required follow-up.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Professional installation crews. Reviewers frequently describe the crews as professional, careful, and able to complete the installation cleanly. Representative review excerpt: "Leticia coordinated the installation and final inspection and Paul and his assistant actually performed the installation."

Prompt repair response. Some customers say the company sent crews out quickly for roof repairs or related work once the issue was identified. Representative review excerpt: "Within a few days Miranda had the crew out to the house for the roof repair."

Occasional workmanship issues. A smaller set of reviewers report that some work had to be redone or that repairs created additional cost or extra modifications. Representative review excerpt: "Installation redone by repair electrician at large cost with additional modifications recommended"

Long-term support & performance

Long-Term Support7.9/10

Post-install support is one of the strongest areas in the review corpus. Reviewers often describe helpful service, monitoring guidance, and effective troubleshooting, while a smaller number report warranty or monitoring frustrations and delays when systems needed attention.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Helpful post-install support. Reviewers say the team continued to answer questions and support systems well after installation, including help with monitoring and incentives. Representative review excerpt: "The team at HES installed my original system and for the past 4 years has been my support for any questions, problems and local incentives."

Effective service and troubleshooting. Some customers describe technicians and support staff as patient and able to resolve battery or inverter problems. Representative review excerpt: "The Service Team was excellent - from Albert who was so patiently answering my endless questions to Juan M the Technician who was able to fix my non-working Sunvault battery!"

Warranty and monitoring issues appear in some reviews. A minority of reviewers report problems getting warranty-related help or getting monitoring and service issues addressed quickly. Representative review excerpt: "They have my inverter that was supposedly covered under warranty from sunpower, which recently went out of business and was outsourcing their warranty repairs."

Bottom line: Across 141 Yelp reviews, HOME ENERGY SYSTEMS earns a 7.7/10 overall score, with especially strong marks for workmanship and long-term support. The main cautions are around pricing clarity, communication follow-through, and occasional timeline delays, while sales experience is generally described as clear and low-pressure.

Important context: this chart shows investor-owned-utility records only. Companies that shift work toward municipal-utility territory (LADWP and city power departments) or other states will show declining bars here even while building steadily elsewhere, and 2025-26 records also lag real installation dates. Treat this as a partial window, not the company's full trajectory.

How we built this data

Methodology: Counts are residential PV interconnections in investor-owned-utility territory (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E) per CPUC Rule 21 public records through May 2026. Postal and name variants are merged. Municipal utility territory such as LADWP, Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Anaheim, and Riverside Public Utilities is not included in those CPUC counts. Counts show recorded installations, not quality ratings. Reported costs are self-reported on owned-system interconnections. No installer can pay for placement.

Who we are: Solar.com is a solar marketplace — we connect homeowners with installers and earn a fee when projects move forward. These rankings and scores are computed from public installation records and published customer reviews. No installer can pay for placement, and no installer — including those we work with — can pay to change a score.
