#534 of 678 scored in California by Solar.com Installer Score

How does Project Solar compare where you live? Rankings are local; an installer that leads one city can trail in the next. See how they rank in your city →

Why this differs from star ratings: most five-star reviews say “great company” and stop, and star averages reward that. These category scores only count reviews with concrete evidence, weighted by recency and the reviewer’s track record. A company can hold a strong star average while specific categories score lower; that gap is usually where the real story is. Categories with more complaints than praise are the questions worth asking any bidder, not necessarily dealbreakers.

Where Project Solar builds

County-by-county activity from CPUC records through May 2026.

What this data covers: *Counts on this page, including the totals up top, come from investor-owned-utility interconnection records (SCE, SDG&E, PG&E). Work in municipal-utility territory, such as LADWP or city utilities, and outside California does not appear here, so this company's true totals are higher than shown. Unlike the county rankings, this profile also shows counties below the 250-install ranking floor.

Project Solar reviews: what customers say

An independent synthesis of published customer feedback, updated September 28, 2026. Green marks praise, amber mixed experiences, red complaints.

Sales & proposal integrity

Sales Integrity6.8/10

Reviewers often describe the sales process as clear and well-structured, with some saying they felt informed from the beginning through installation. A smaller set of complaints raises concerns about expectations around warranty terms and overall sales honesty.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Clear start-to-finish guidance. Several reviewers say they had a single point of contact through the process and felt supported from initial discussions through system startup. Representative review excerpt: "You are assigned 1 contact who is with you from the start until the system is up and running."

Research-friendly proposals. Some reviewers say they did their homework and found the proposal and pricing straightforward enough to choose with confidence. Representative review excerpt: "I did a lot of research before choosing which solar company to go with."

Warranty expectations dispute. A few reviewers report dissatisfaction with how warranty-related expectations were handled once issues came up, saying the experience did not match what they thought had been promised. Representative review excerpt: "What made everything worse was the dishonesty surrounding their so-called “10-year warranty.” When issues came up, instead of honoring that warranty, they tried to charge a fee just to come..."

Price & financing transparency

Price Transparency6.1/10

Still, a meaningful set of complaints points to confusion around pricing, deposits, refunds, and communication tied to payment questions.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Lower-than-expected pricing. Several reviewers say the total cost came in well below competing quotes and felt like a strong value for the system size. Representative review excerpt: "The total cost was WAY lower than any other quote we found - had some over $40k which I thought was insane."

Helpful financing experience. Some reviewers say they liked the pricing structure and appreciated help finding a workable loan solution. Representative review excerpt: "No other Solar company offers the same rate, maybe only Tesla, they are very comparable, but Tesla will not help you find a loan solution with a credit union that..."

Payment and refund concerns. A few reviewers describe frustration with payment-related follow-up, including problems getting questions answered and concerns about money not being returned as expected.

Communication & coordination

Communication6.1/10

Reviewers frequently describe responsive communication and coordinated project support, especially when the team stayed in touch through parts, permits, and supply issues. The main complaints center on missed calls, delayed responses, and situations where customers felt they had to push for follow-up.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Responsive day-to-day updates. Many reviewers say texts, emails, and calls were handled promptly and that staff made an effort to keep them informed. Representative review excerpt: "They were quick to respond to texts and emails and calls and have gone out of their way to make sure we've been taken care of."

Helpful coordination across steps. Some reviewers say plans, permits, parts, and other project details were handled well and that the team kept them updated through supply challenges. Representative review excerpt: "Plans, permits, parts and materials, support and everything else was outstanding."

Follow-up gaps. A few reviewers report trouble getting return calls or getting messages relayed correctly, which left them feeling unsupported. Representative review excerpt: "THEY WILL NOW RETURN PHONE CALLS AND THEY HAVE A CALL CENTER IN PHILIPPINES THAT DOES NOT RELAY THE MESSAGE OR THE MESSAGE NEVER GETS RETURNED..."

Timeline reliability

Timeline Reliability5.8/10

The timeline picture is mixed: some reviewers describe a smooth permitting and installation process, while others report delays tied to inspections, materials, or communication breakdowns. Reviewers also mention missed appointments and slower-than-expected progress before activation.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Permits and coordination moved well. Some reviewers say the team helped move things along with the city and HOA and that installation itself was completed efficiently. Representative review excerpt: "They helped us work with both our city (we are in Lake Forest, CA) and our HOA to move things along and the actual installation only took a day."

Supply-delay patience. A few reviewers say there were supply challenges, but they were kept informed and the project still got finished. Representative review excerpt: "They kept us informed throughout supply challenges but got the job done."

Delays and no-shows. Other reviewers describe delayed projects, including inspection-day no-shows and waiting longer than expected for parts or activation. Representative review excerpt: "They were initially a no-show during the day of the city inspection, causing our entire project to be delayed."

Workmanship & site care

Workmanship6.8/10

Most reviewers describe the installation crews as professional, careful, and respectful of the home. A small number of complaints mention roof damage or systems that did not function as expected after installation.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Professional install crews. Several reviewers say the crew was friendly, professional, and willing to answer questions during the install. Representative review excerpt: "The installation process was smooth—the crew was friendly, professional, and took the time to answer my questions."

Cleanup and roof care. Some reviewers specifically mention cleanup afterward and roof tile replacement as needed. Representative review excerpt: "They cleaned up afterwards and replaced roof tiles as needed."

Damage and unresolved repair concerns. A small number of reviewers report roof damage or systems that were left in poor condition and not addressed to their satisfaction. Representative review excerpt: "These guys damaged my roof will not come back and fix anything."

Long-term support & performance

Long-Term Support6.4/10

Post-install feedback is generally favorable, with many reviewers saying their systems produced well and that support remained available after the job was done. At the same time, some reviewers report problems with warranty follow-up, later system issues, or service requests that did not go smoothly.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Strong production reports. Several reviewers say their systems have performed well over time and helped reduce or eliminate utility payments. Representative review excerpt: "We pay $130 per month for a 2 story 2500 sq ft house w/ a 11.7KW system and it produces almost 90% of our yearly electricity."

Helpful after-install support. Some reviewers say customer service stayed responsive after installation and continued answering questions. Representative review excerpt: "Oh, and they have great customer service and will answer any questions you might have."

Warranty and service concerns. A few reviewers report frustration with post-install service, including issues they felt were not handled under warranty or systems that later stopped working. Representative review excerpt: "What made everything worse was the dishonesty surrounding their so-called “10-year warranty.” When issues came up, instead of honoring that warranty, they tried to charge a fee just to come..."

Bottom line: Project Solar’s review profile is mixed but slightly positive overall, with strong marks for workmanship and sales clarity balanced by weaker feedback on communication, timeline reliability, and post-install support. Reviewers most often praise lower-than-expected pricing and responsive coordination, while complaints tend to focus on delays, follow-up gaps, and warranty-related disputes.

Important context: this chart shows investor-owned-utility records only. Companies that shift work toward municipal-utility territory (LADWP and city power departments) or other states will show declining bars here even while building steadily elsewhere, and 2025-26 records also lag real installation dates. Treat this as a partial window, not the company's full trajectory.

How we built this data

Methodology: Counts are residential PV interconnections in investor-owned-utility territory (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E) per CPUC Rule 21 public records through May 2026. Postal and name variants are merged. Municipal utility territory such as LADWP, Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Anaheim, and Riverside Public Utilities is not included in those CPUC counts. Counts show recorded installations, not quality ratings. Reported costs are self-reported on owned-system interconnections. No installer can pay for placement.

Who we are: Solar.com is a solar marketplace — we connect homeowners with installers and earn a fee when projects move forward. These rankings and scores are computed from public installation records and published customer reviews. No installer can pay for placement, and no installer — including those we work with — can pay to change a score.
