How does Solarunion compare where you live? Rankings are local; an installer that leads one city can trail in the next. See how they rank in your city →

Why this differs from star ratings: most five-star reviews say “great company” and stop, and star averages reward that. These category scores only count reviews with concrete evidence, weighted by recency and the reviewer’s track record. A company can hold a strong star average while specific categories score lower; that gap is usually where the real story is. Categories with more complaints than praise are the questions worth asking any bidder, not necessarily dealbreakers.

Where Solarunion builds

County-by-county activity from CPUC records through May 2026.

What this data covers: *Counts on this page, including the totals up top, come from investor-owned-utility interconnection records (SCE, SDG&E, PG&E). Work in municipal-utility territory, such as LADWP or city utilities, and outside California does not appear here, so this company's true totals are higher than shown. Unlike the county rankings, this profile also shows counties below the 250-install ranking floor.

Solarunion reviews: what customers say

An independent synthesis of published customer feedback, updated September 28, 2026. Green marks praise, amber mixed experiences, red complaints.

Sales & proposal integrity

Sales Integrity6.7/10

Reviewers most often describe the sales and proposal process as clear, helpful, and not pushy. At the same time, a smaller set of reviews says pricing or expectations were not always presented cleanly, including concerns about pressure and mismatches between what was discussed and what was delivered.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Clear, helpful sales guidance. Many reviewers say the sales team explained options well, avoided pressure, and helped them work through design decisions from the proposal stage through installation. Representative review excerpt: "No pressure sales tactics, solid explanations, and helped me navigate all the decisions."

End-to-end process felt organized. Some reviewers describe the drone survey, proposal, contracting, design iteration, installation, and inspection as a smooth sequence with good guidance along the way. Representative review excerpt: "From the beginning, where they did the drone survey, the proposal and contracting, and iterating with us on the design and, and finally the installation and inspection, everything is nothing..."

Watch-outs around pressure and expectations. A smaller group reports sales pressure, promotional outreach, or cases where the system details or pricing did not match what they expected after the initial discussion. Representative review excerpt: "They spent 0 time looking at the panels and immediately jumped into sale mode to try and convince me to buy their system and have them replace the current one."

Price & financing transparency

Price Transparency5.4/10

The complaint pattern is strong enough to make this the least consistent area in the review set.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Fair or Pricing pricing for some projects. Some reviewers say the price was good, the bid held steady, and the final cost matched what they were told upfront. Representative review excerpt: "SolarUnion bid a price for the work and came in at that price --- no excuses for things they may have missed in the bidding process, no increases in costs..."

Pricing quote and straightforward value. Reviewers describe a recurring pattern in this area. Representative review excerpt: "They did all the work with the permitting, they provided very quick feedback to any questions and their quote was very competitive."

Unexpected changes and added costs. Several reviewers report being surprised by contract price increases, code-related add-ons, or financing and deposit expectations that were not as clear as they wanted.

Communication & coordination

Communication6.5/10

Reviewers generally describe the company as responsive and helpful with scheduling, financing, and post-signing coordination. Still, a meaningful minority report delays, missed follow-up, or confusing handoffs during permitting and service appointments.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Responsive day-to-day support. Many reviewers say they could get quick text or phone responses and that staff stayed engaged through scheduling and post-install steps. Representative review excerpt: "Mary : is difficult to look for using email, but she responds text so fast, she's the one respond for schedules also after installation steps ( registration & apps download)..."

Hands-on coordination across the process. Some reviewers describe a coordinated experience from the first call through utility hookup, with questions answered and next steps explained along the way. Representative review excerpt: "From the first phone call to Solar Union through the final process of hooking up with PG&G has been perfect."

Some delays and missed follow-up. A smaller set of reviews reports poor communication around appointments or permitting, including situations where customers waited for updates or were not told about changes clearly. Representative review excerpt: "Unfortunately, their poor communication and delays during the permitting process plagued my solar project, leading to 7 months between signing the contract and the permit approval (9/2022-4/2023)."

Timeline reliability

Timeline Reliability6.7/10

Timeline reviews are mostly positive, with many customers saying installation, permitting, and activation moved in an orderly way. Complaints cluster around permit delays, utility-related waits, and occasional schedule changes that stretched the process longer than expected.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Projects often moved through the steps cleanly. Several reviewers say permitting and installation were completed efficiently, with the process and timeline matching what they were told. Representative review excerpt: "The process and timeline I was given and the associated actions were met with efficiency and friendliness."

Some installs finished quickly. Reviewers also mention cases where installation itself took less than a day or where the team handled the timeline smoothly despite the normal process steps. Representative review excerpt: "We went through permitting seamlessly (albeit slowly) and the installation took less than a day!"

Delays can occur in permitting or utility activation. Other reviewers report long waits tied to permitting, inspection follow-up, or utility-side activation steps, including some projects that stretched out much longer than planned. Representative review excerpt: "Unfortunately, their poor communication and delays during the permitting process plagued my solar project, leading to 7 months between signing the contract and the permit approval (9/2022-4/2023)."

Workmanship & site care

Workmanship7.9/10

Workmanship is a clear strength in the review corpus. Customers most often describe the installers as professional and the finished work as high quality, with only occasional notes about code-related extras or other installation-day complications.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Installers described as excellent. Many reviewers say the crew did careful work, handled upgrades professionally, and left the system looking and functioning well. Representative review excerpt: "The installers were excellent and also installed the EV charger and changed the house main panel to upgrade electrical service to 200 AMP."

Good design and execution. Some customers mention thoughtful layout planning based on roof imagery and usage data, along with an installation and inspection process they found well managed. Representative review excerpt: "Then Solar Union designed the panel layout with our energy usage data and a satellite image of our roof."

Occasional installation-day hiccups. A small number of reviews mention unexpected code-related work or other issues that added complexity during installation, even when the overall job still finished well. Representative review excerpt: "The only hiccup happened when there was unexpected cost required during installation to get our house up to code."

Long-term support & performance

Long-Term Support7.8/10

Post-install reviews are largely favorable, especially around system performance, monitoring help, and follow-through on contract terms. A few reviewers raise concerns about contract reading, ownership transfer, or support details after activation, but these are uncommon relative to the positive reports.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Strong performance after activation. Reviewers describe systems producing well after turn-on, with some noting noticeable bill reductions and generally smooth operation. Representative review excerpt: "We're very happy with results, including reducing carbon footprint and reducing PG&E bill from $100/mo to $10/month."

Warranty and follow-through inspire confidence. Some customers say the company respected contract terms and felt dependable for future warranty support if anything needed attention. Representative review excerpt: "They respected the contract terms and I expect them to be around for the 10 year battery warranty and 25 year solar panel warranty in case anything fails."

A few post-install support concerns. A small set of reviews mentions issues that came up after the system was live, including monitoring, ownership transfer, or payment-timing questions that required extra attention. Representative review excerpt: "Make sure you read your contract carefully and that until your system is producing power to PG&E, you do not have to pay the remaining total."

Bottom line: Solar.com’s review corpus for SOLARUNION shows a generally positive installer profile with a 7.7/10 overall score, led by strong workmanship and solid long-term performance. The main drag on the profile is transparency around price and financing, while communication and timeline reliability are more mixed but still lean positive overall.

Important context: this chart shows investor-owned-utility records only. Companies that shift work toward municipal-utility territory (LADWP and city power departments) or other states will show declining bars here even while building steadily elsewhere, and 2025-26 records also lag real installation dates. Treat this as a partial window, not the company's full trajectory.

How we built this data

Methodology: Counts are residential PV interconnections in investor-owned-utility territory (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E) per CPUC Rule 21 public records through May 2026. Postal and name variants are merged. Municipal utility territory such as LADWP, Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Anaheim, and Riverside Public Utilities is not included in those CPUC counts. Counts show recorded installations, not quality ratings. Reported costs are self-reported on owned-system interconnections. No installer can pay for placement.

Who we are: Solar.com is a solar marketplace — we connect homeowners with installers and earn a fee when projects move forward. These rankings and scores are computed from public installation records and published customer reviews. No installer can pay for placement, and no installer — including those we work with — can pay to change a score.
