#668 of 678 scored in California by Solar.com Installer Score

How does Sungevity compare where you live? Rankings are local; an installer that leads one city can trail in the next. See how they rank in your city →

Why this differs from star ratings: most five-star reviews say “great company” and stop, and star averages reward that. These category scores only count reviews with concrete evidence, weighted by recency and the reviewer’s track record. A company can hold a strong star average while specific categories score lower; that gap is usually where the real story is. Categories with more complaints than praise are the questions worth asking any bidder, not necessarily dealbreakers.

Where Sungevity builds

County-by-county activity from CPUC records through May 2026.

What this data covers: *Counts on this page, including the totals up top, come from investor-owned-utility interconnection records (SCE, SDG&E, PG&E). Work in municipal-utility territory, such as LADWP or city utilities, and outside California does not appear here, so this company's true totals are higher than shown. Unlike the county rankings, this profile also shows counties below the 250-install ranking floor.

Sungevity reviews: what customers say

An independent synthesis of published customer feedback, updated September 28, 2026. Green marks praise, amber mixed experiences, red complaints.

Sales & proposal integrity

Sales Integrity4.8/10

Reviewers give mixed-to-negative feedback on sales and proposal handling. Praise appears for presentations and some clear upfront discussion, but complaints are more common around pressure, unclear expectations, and proposals that did not match later experiences.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Pressure and pushy selling. Other reviewers describe feeling pressured to accept a quote quickly or otherwise pushed into a sale. These accounts raise concerns about how the initial agreement was presented. Representative review excerpt: "The representative (Patrick Solomon) pressured us in accepting the quote on the spot due to supposed Sungevity investor requirements and other intimidating sales tactics."

Expectation gaps. A smaller set of reviews suggests the sales process did not always line up cleanly with later project details. That includes comments about communication gaps between sales and project staff and about getting a proposal that was not fully transparent. Representative review excerpt: "I gave them 4 stars because of lack of transparency in communications between sales and Project leader., but overall I'm very pleased with the outcome."

Presentation quality. Some reviewers say the sales presentation was strong and helped them feel informed early in the process. These comments focus on a positive first impression before the project moved forward. Representative review excerpt: "Although my parents didn't get solar from this company we really did like them and their presentation."

Price & financing transparency

Price Transparency4.4/10

Reviewers most often report problems with pricing, financing, and payment timing. A few comments are positive, but the dominant pattern is surprise costs, payment disputes, and uncertainty around amounts promised and amounts later billed or collected.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Payment and fee disputes. Several reviewers describe disputes over final payments, referral bonuses, or other money they expected to receive or pay. These accounts suggest the financial terms were not always understood the same way by both sides. Representative review excerpt: "I referred to them two customers for over $50,000 in contracts and in return they promised to pay me a referral bonus of which I have seen nothing."

Design and amount mismatch. One mixed review says to watch the promised number and the designed number, especially when the system design changes after the initial estimate. That points to possible gaps between early pricing expectations and the final plan. Representative review excerpt: "The design from the satellite and the design from a walk on are two very different things and keep an eye on the promised number and the designed number."

Lower bills for some customers. A small number of reviewers say they saw a meaningful reduction in their electric bill after choosing a long-term payment option. This is one of the clearer positive notes in the category. Representative review excerpt: "My Bill for Electrical was average $196 / month and now after taking the option to do a one payment in advance for a 20 year lease my bill is..."

Communication & coordination

Communication3.6/10

This is the weakest-rated area in the review set. Reviewers frequently report unanswered calls, unreturned emails, and difficulty getting a clear owner for issues, while only a few comments describe a smooth interaction or eventual follow-through.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Unreturned contact attempts. Many reviewers say they could not get the company to answer the phone or reply to emails. The recurring theme is slow or absent follow-up when customers needed help. Representative review excerpt: "This company is a joke they never answer the phone wont answer emails."

Escalation difficulty. Some reviewers describe having to make repeated attempts just to reach someone in management or get a response on a complaint. This suggests coordination problems that went beyond a single missed message. Representative review excerpt: "I have been emailing and calling for months to get a managers email address to file a complaint, and my email has never been answered."

Eventual follow-up. A few reviewers note that Sungevity did eventually get back in touch and resolve an issue after a delay. These are positive reports, but they appear much less often than the complaints. Representative review excerpt: "Well I am happy to say that after having waited a month, I was contacted by Sungevity today and was very pleased with the final outcome."

Timeline reliability

Timeline Reliability5.0/10

Timeline feedback is mixed, but the balance leans negative. Some reviewers say projects finished in a reasonable window, while others describe delays tied to design changes, staffing issues, or unanswered requests that slowed permitting and activation.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Delay-driven frustration. Other reviewers describe long waits for design updates or project movement, sometimes stretching over weeks or months. These comments point to inconsistent pacing once the process was underway. Representative review excerpt: "The design team after the site visit has taken over a month and still not gotten back to me about the design for my system."

Late requirement changes. Some reviewers say important prerequisites, such as roof work, surfaced later than expected and added time to the project. That kind of late-stage change can disrupt permitting and activation timelines. Representative review excerpt: "In sending it, the Sungevity rep casually mentioned at the end of the lengthy cover email that I would actually need to re-roof my house before they could move forward..."

Reasonable completion window. One reviewer says the full process took about four months and came in shorter than the average they expected. This is the clearest positive note on schedule performance. Representative review excerpt: "The whole process took four months from the day we signed the papers, which is shorter then the average which is 5-6 months."

Workmanship & site care

Workmanship5.6/10

Workmanship feedback is somewhat better than the service and communication categories, but it is still mixed. Reviewers include some positive notes about accommodating installation preferences, alongside serious complaints about roof damage, poor cleanup, and disputed repair responsibility.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

Roof and home damage. Several reviewers report installation-related damage to roofs and, in some cases, interior areas. These are the most serious workmanship complaints in the review set. Representative review excerpt: "In December 2019, Sungevity Solar (Hemet CA) faultily installed panels damaging the roof at our house with severe damage to kitchen walls and ceiling."

Damage disputes. Some customers say the company disputed responsibility for damage or suggested the problem was pre-existing. That pattern indicates that post-installation site-care issues were not always resolved to the customer’s satisfaction. Representative review excerpt: "They told me based off the holes it was impossible that the install team caused the damage and that it must have been pre-existing."

Installation preferences honored. A few reviewers say the crew worked with them on layout details, including avoiding conduit across the roof. These comments suggest some flexibility during installation. Representative review excerpt: "Parker worked with me on the installation as I did not want any conduit running across my roof."

Long-term support & performance

Long-Term Support5.0/10

Post-install feedback is mixed, with complaints slightly outweighing praise. Reviewers mention some satisfactory service experiences, but more often describe difficulty getting help after turn-on, unresolved repair needs, or concerns when the system stopped working.Solar.com's composite of published customer feedback, not a customer quote

No help when issues arose. Multiple reviewers say that once a part failed or the system stopped working, it became difficult to get support. The recurring complaint is that service was much weaker after the sale and installation were complete. Representative review excerpt: "Sungevity may be a good company when everything is going good, working just fine, but have a issue or a part stops working, for get it, they are not going..."

Incomplete repairs. Some reviewers report that damage or equipment issues were only partially addressed, with one part repaired while other affected areas were left unresolved. That suggests post-install support could be uneven when problems needed follow-through. Representative review excerpt: "After multiple attempts insisting Sungevity resolve the issue and repair damages, panels were removed; however only repairing the roof, leaving ceiling and walls unattended."

Pleasant service for some. A few reviewers say their experience with the company remained positive after installation and that customer service felt important to them. These comments show that not every post-install interaction was negative. Representative review excerpt: "I don't know if I just got lucky or what but every single experience with Sungevity for me has been pleasurable and customer service which I feel is extremely important..."

Bottom line: Across 49 substantive Yelp reviews, Sungevity’s profile skews negative overall, with especially weak marks for communication, sales clarity, and price transparency. Workmanship and timeline feedback is more mixed, but reviewers still report recurring issues with delays, damage, and post-install support.

Important context: this chart shows investor-owned-utility records only. Companies that shift work toward municipal-utility territory (LADWP and city power departments) or other states will show declining bars here even while building steadily elsewhere, and 2025-26 records also lag real installation dates. Treat this as a partial window, not the company's full trajectory.

How we built this data

Methodology: Counts are residential PV interconnections in investor-owned-utility territory (PG&E, SCE, SDG&E) per CPUC Rule 21 public records through May 2026. Postal and name variants are merged. Municipal utility territory such as LADWP, Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Anaheim, and Riverside Public Utilities is not included in those CPUC counts. Counts show recorded installations, not quality ratings. Reported costs are self-reported on owned-system interconnections. No installer can pay for placement.

Who we are: Solar.com is a solar marketplace — we connect homeowners with installers and earn a fee when projects move forward. These rankings and scores are computed from public installation records and published customer reviews. No installer can pay for placement, and no installer — including those we work with — can pay to change a score.
